and also,

when i write, it's sort of train-of-thought (because i don't have as much time to edit as i'd like), and i leave things out that i meant to say. the other night, i meant to also note that i'm a horrible parent, because this is the 4th christmas that emerson has been on the planet, and we have not one photo of him with santa. i should be taken out back and beaten, right? yep. we missed the whole pumpkin patch experience this year, too. i hear a knock at the door. it's dfcs. SHHHH.

i'm just not into the whole santa deal. never have been. i don't care if my kid believes in the big guy or not. i will certainly not threaten him with no presents based on his behavior, because, well, as if the supreme commander would even listen to me. HA. no, santa's just not my thing. and emerson is fairly terrified of him. dave's mother tells me that he was the same way, so maybe it's genetic.

at any rate, dave's mother tried to bribe emerson with candy canes, hot chocolate, what have you to go sit on santa's lap. my kid has a sweet tooth like you would NOT believe, but he would not capitulate. NO to santa. and i'm ok with it, really. so we're not getting the traditional holiday snapshots. life could be worse.

what about you guys? do your kids get into santa? did you when you were young?

The only holiday pic my kids have ever had was the one with the super creepy easter bunny. My mom would always take us to santa, but would never buy the pics, so I have none and don't feel a major loss so I figure they'll live. I did promise to take Emm to the nutcracker this year and have yet to get tickets, I should probably get on that. Oh - and Roan has several times handed me items and asked if I could give them to Santa to give to him. I said yes (since I was trying to figure out how to get them w/o his noticing). So between having a sister 4 years older who's about to figure it out and my lackadaisical magical moment management, he'll probably be wise to the santa thing pretty soon.

We do Santa. I don't remember having any pics other than baby ones w/ Santa until I was about 8 or 9. Probably b/c who wants to haul 2 kids to the mall? We go to the botanical garden b/c they have the sweetest, most soft spoken Santa EVER! Real beard, and all!! Maggie's waaaay into it until she gets up close and personal. Then the nerves kick in. Plus the garden doesn't do pics. If you want to bring your own camera it's all good, but they like to keep it about getting to meet Santa.

My favorite "Santa" moment was when we stopped for a pee break @ a Perkins in S.C. over our Thanksgiving road trip. There was an off duty Santa eating with two little old ladies. The waitress pointed him out (he must be the local celeb b/c she had a pic of him dressed up in her wait book) and told Maggie he was eating dinner under cover. She was MESMERIZED!! I thought we weren't going to be able to leave the place. Oh, Perkins. I'll never forget you for that magical moment....and the fact that the whole place smelled like a big wet dog ass!
